  • Didn't need a belt or a crown or a title. My favourite wrestler along with Undertaker as a kid. I naturally root for the heels in wrestling and I think it's because of Roddy Piper being one of the most entertaining people I've ever seen. He always looked like he was having so much fun trolling the arena. And his energy was electric. He made the other wrestlers seem really boring in comparison. His successor in my opinion was Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin was the Attitude version of Roddy, or I guess Roddy was the prototype for Stone Cold. A lot of what Austin did had spiritual links to what Roddy had done. I think he was a true diamond. And he still arguably has the best movie career with They Live. Can't get any cooler than being in a John Carpenter movie.

  • In my opinion Rowdy Roddy Piper is the G.O.A.T. he was the best ever on the mic and every piper's pit was truly him being entertaining and doing what he did best and he was talented in the ring too. He deserved to be a world champion but didn't need to be one in order to be a true champion of the people. He was and always will be the first true people's champion and my all time favorite wrestler followed by stone cold Steve Austin and Eddie Guerrero.

  • I had the privilege of seeing Rowdy Roddy Piper wrestle in person in April of 1984 in Kingston, NY. His opponent was Tony Garea whom he defeated in the match. I also bought his book In The Pit With Piper years ago, a good read. My father got the biggest kick out of Piper smacking Superfly Jimmy Snuka over the head with a coconut and even though he despised pro wrestling he liked Roddy Piper. The fact that my father is part Scottish may have something to do with it. ;) Wish I could have met Piper in person and had a beer with him, he was my favorite wrestler of all time. Rest in Peace Hot Rod and thanks for the memories (April 17, 1954-July 30, 2015).

I also remember Ken Patera, Ivan Putski, Sunka, Tony Atlas, Rocky Johnson, Rick Rude, Paul Orndorff, Hogan, Billy Graham, Ventura, and the list goes on. Then you have guys like John Studd and Nikolai who weren't quite so cut but absolutely montrous in the power department and built like trucks. Someone like Patera at his peak build was stronger than about anyone in the business today and had some actual size to him. At one time, wrestlers were someone you didn't want to meet in a dark alley. Today, they're someone serving you at Starbucks.
